Rules & Regulations (Revised July 2025)

1. All lots of the Mt. Zion Cemetery are subject to the rules and regulations of this cemetery. They shall be used for no purpose other than the burial of the human deceased.

2. There will be a full charge of $450 for the first burial container (casket with a required vault or cremation container). There will be an additional charge of $300 for each additional burial container in the same gravesite. Each gravesite shall not exceed more than two (2) burial containers per lot.

 

3. The grave lot to be occupied must be paid in full before interment is permitted.

 

4. A grave lot can only be sold to another party by approval of the trustees.

 

5. The term 'grave lot' refers to a 5' X 10' space. Headstones shall be limited to a 4 foot wide space for a single gravesite or 8 foot wide space for a double gravesite. The headstone shall also be placed on a footer that is no less than three feet deep. *Extra care must be taken in positioning you headstone if you choose to place it on your lot before death so that there will not be any interference while digging a grave. If your stone needs to be moved, any damage or additional expense will be the responsibility of the owner of the headstone.

6. Trustees must approve, in advance oversized monuments before being set on a grave.

 

7. Only granite, marble or other natural stone will be permitted materials for a headstone. It must be installed in the upper center position by an approved monument contractor or by permission of the trustees.

 

8. For verification, especially for the Military, a monument placed at the foot of the grave must bf flush with the ground.
 

9. Statuary and stone planters of any nature are not permitted unless it is part of the monument or permanently attached to the monument or its foundation.

 

10. No trees or shrubs permitted to be planted by any individuals anywhere in the cemetery including on a gravesite.

 

11. No fencing, curbing, gravel or stone shall be placed anywhere on or around the gravesites due to its interference with mowing and maintenance of the grounds. *If you choose to do so, the cemetery caretakers will not be responsible for maintaining your individual lot.

 

12. Flower arrangements must be limited to the width of a headstone and placed within a 12 inch area from the headstone. The trustees or a designee may remove dead and damaged plants and artificial flowers at anytime and to cut and trim plants, as they deem necessary.

 

13. All flowers that you wish to save must be removed by April 1st for the purpose of cleaning the grounds in early spring and by October 15th for fall cleaning.

 

14. Any person coming into the cemetery for the purpose of opening a grave is totally responsible for leaving the cemetery in a clean and proper condition. Any damage you may cause to other graves will be your responsibility to repair.

 

15. The Mt. Zion Cemetery Association in no way be held liable for any injuries sustained by anyone while in the cemetery.

16. No firearms will be permitted in the cemetery other than for military funeral or Memorial Day services.

 

17. No alcoholic beverages are permitted in the cemetery.

 

18. Motorized vehicles are permitted on roadways only.

 

19. All persons are prohibited from disrespectful use of this cemetery.

 

20. Any inappropriate items placed on a grave that might be offensive to others will be removed.

 

21. All interment and disinterments and removals are subject to the rules and fees of the cemetery as well as subject to the orders and laws of the properly constituted authorities of the township, county and state.

 

22. The utmost care will be excercised in making a disinterment or removal, but the committee shall assume no liability for damage to any casket incurred while making a removal.

 

23. No posting of advertisements, notices or signs are permitted on cemetery grounds unless approved by the trustees.

 

24. Trustees are hereby empowered to enforce all rules and regulations and we reserve the right to make changes as we feel necessary: frustees shall have supervision and control of all persons within the cemetery including the conduct of funerals, traffic and employees.

 

25. Special cases may arise in which the enforcement of a rule may impose unnecessary hardships on an individual. The trustees reserve the right, without notice, to make exceptions or modifications in any of the rules and regulations when It seems advisable. Such exceptions or modifications shall in no way be construed as affecting the general application of such rules.
 

26. By purchasing a lot you become a member of the Mt. Zion Cemetery Association. Our yearly meeting is held the second Tuesday of June at the Mt Lion Cemetery Pavilion at 7:00 P.M.
